Upgrade Path

Hi

I've been running vBulletin 3.5.2 with vBGallery 1.0.1 but it's now time to upgrade.

Without thinking, I've already brought vBulletin up to version 3.8.1, and now the gallery doesn't work (lots of db errors).

What's the best path to take now? Obviously I want to keep my images etc, so should I upgrade to vBGallery 2.4.3, or can PhotoPost 6.2 import everything?

Thanks
Martin

You can upgrade to 2.43 as that would be the version of vbgallery that works with that version of vbulletin. As far as switching you can make that decision once you get things back up and running correctly.

I tried upgrading, and it all went horribly wrong: lots of db errors and I could no longer even access vBulletin admin - so I've rolled back.

This is what I did, starting from a working vBulletin 3.5.2 and vBaGallery 1.0.1:

1. Upgrade vBulletin to 3.8.1
2. Upload vBGallery 2.4.3
3. Run the install script, and clicked UPGRADE
4. Cried.

Am I doing something wrong?

Well 1.1 is for vbulletin 3.5 so you might try reverting and then upgrading but you would need to let me know your upgrade problems errors so we may assist.

I have upgraded a few older sites from vbgallery 1.x series to 2.43 and not seen any issues so more information is needed.

1.0.1 (vB3.5)

Unfortunately I can't revert the vBulletin back to a previous version.

What do you suggest I do first?

ok, I'm trying the upgrade again today. This is what I currently have:

vBulletin 3.8.1
vBGallery 1.0.1 (vB3.5)
vBadvanced CMPS v3.1.0

The gallery hasn't worked since I upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin. (I was using v3.5.2 before the upgrade and the gallery was fine).

I've downloaded photopost_vbgallery_2_5 and I'm following the standard install docs. Steps 1 & 2 are done.

Step 3 - Run the Install Script

I click on UPGRADE, and immediately get this:

Quote:
Database error in vBulletin 3.8.1:

Invalid SQL:
SELECT catid, styleid, title, title_clean, allowusercats, catuserid, membercat, parent, parentlist, hasimages, password, active, options, useroptions, styleoverride FROM ppgal_categories ORDER BY displayorder ASC, hasimages;

MySQL Error : Unknown column 'title_clean' in 'field list'
Error Number : 1054
Request Date : Wednesday, March 4th 2009 @ 06:00:26 AM
Error Date : Wednesday, March 4th 2009 @ 06:00:27 AM

IP Address : 86.17.250.247

MySQL Version : 5.0.67-log
What should I do?

Thanks!

You will have to wait until chuck gets up.. (other timezone)...
I understand your error.. but to not know how to fix it easily...
The mistake was.. to upgrade vbulletin first...
you should have upgraded gallery... (old version for under 3.7) and then upgrade vbulletin... and then only upgrade gallery to the last version.. that would have worked fine...

anyway try to use 2.42 instead of 2.43 or 2.5..
i dont think 2.42 has the extra tables allready...

Hard way: do a clean install with 2.5 (fresh - no images)
open up in phpmyadmin..
compare the tables /fields (only for vbgallery) with your existing installation.. then create the columns or tables you are missing on your installation.. make sure you have the same type/length.. and other properties...
then the install should work..

Yes, I just dived in and upgraded vBulletin without thinking about anything else..!

Unfortunately the forum has been re-opened for a week so there's no way I can roll-back to the old version now.

Well My suggestion is have you verified what version your gallery setting table has for the version? It should say your last version 1.01 then you should be able to upgrade.

Your system is looking for variables that are suppose to exist in a newer vbgallery.

Where do I find the version? Which table?

I'm restoring the database to how it was this morning, so I we can try the upgrade again now.

The version number was in a table called adv_settings. 1.0.1 (vB 3.5)

Is that ok? What's next?

Immediately after clicking the UPGRADE button, I get a database error and can no longer access vBulletin or any admin.

This is the error:
