Chuck: you're a God. Briefly, what did you have to do?

Also, would you be able to point me in the right direction to getting the gallery preview back on my homepage? Again, it was all working before I upgraded to 3.8.2

As far as any gallery preview you would need to set the plugin to yes under the vbgallery admin addons settings and then set usergroup permissions of which groups you want to see it. You might also need to reinstall templates if templates changed in 3.81

As far as your upgrade all I did was comment out 2 lines to update the category cache before running the upgrade
