Upload error "An error occurred while attempting to create a folder for your files"

Hi, i keep getting this message when i try to upload an image

Content visible to verified customers only.

The "files" folder and sub files/folders are set to "777" and no joy


any ideas?

If i turn the safemode bypass to off I can Upload an image,

only problem is that the photo is displayed as a red box with an "X" but the thumbnail works..
