| Installation confusion - missing files?
Zachariah already kindly started helping with this, but I figured I'd post my question too just in case anyone else has had the same questions. (Zachariah: feel free to continue helping here if you wish. Thanks.)
According to the installation instructions that came with vBGallery, you're supposed to do this: Quote:
Upload the new PhotoPost vBGallery files to the directories listed below.- root/forum/admincp - vbgallery_install.php, vba_gallery_admin.php, product-ppvbgallery.xml
- root/forum/includes - adminfunctions_gallery.php, functions_gallery.php, functions_gallery_imageedit.php, functions_gallery_store.php
- root/forum/includes/cron - gallery_ecard.php, gallery_search.php, gallery_subscriptions.php
- root/forum/includes/vbgallery - admin_index_main1.php, error_generic.php, mod_index_navigation.php, online_location_preprocess.php, online_location_process.php, online_location_unknown.php, template_groups.php, cache_templates.php, formhome_complete.php, member_complete.php, online_location_preprocess.php, style_fetch.php
- root/forums/includes/xml - cpnav_vbagallery.xml
- root/forum/modcp - vba_gallery.php
- root/gallery/ - Upload this folder and all of it's contents into your root directory.
Note: Be sure to upload the /gallery/images and /forum/cpstyles folders and their contents in Binary mode and the other files in ASCII mode.
| However, several of those files don't exist in the download package.
Zachariah gave me this simple instruction: Quote: |
The gallery folder can be placed where you wish. The "forums" folder must have it's contents and folder structure uploaded to your vBulletin folder on your web server.
| Does this mean I should ignore all those instructions about placing specific files in specific places, and not worry about uploading some in Binary and the rest in ASCII mode? And does this mean I don't have to worry about the missing files*?
If so, why does it come with all those complicated instructions?
Thanks!
G
*The missing files include functions_gallery_store.php and admin_index_main1.php. Once I noticed those I stopped checking to see if there were others.

what that means is there is a directory called forums in the vbgallery download. You need to rename that directory to your vb directory name or upload those files to the proper forum directory on your server

Your not listing an missing file error here. I am just baseing my responce on what Zachariah is saying meaning he is stating you have not uploaded the needed files.

*The missing files include functions_gallery_store.php and admin_index_main1.php. Once I noticed those I stopped checking to see if there were others. | So to clarify:
There is no error message, because I haven't uploaded anything yet. I haven't uploaded anything yet because some of the files that the installation instructions say I'm supposed to upload do not exist in any of the folders that came with vBGallery. As I said above, there may be more than the 2 I listed.
Should I ignore the steps in the installation instructions (quoted in my first post) that involve those files? Do those files not matter?
Otherwise, what should I do?
Thank you very much.

I will clean up the directions.
The install is very simple.
- copy with directory structure intact (many ftp programs - drag and drop) the gallery folder onto your web server.
- There is another folder called forums. You need to copy the files and folders within to the same folder you have vBulletin installed.
The reason for the file list. There are some people out there that use file manager scripts built in to domain tools vs. "drag" and "drop" FTP upload.
If there is a missing file listed I will clean up the directions. There are no missing files in the build.
functions_gallery_store.php and admin_index_main1.php were removed in vBgallery 2.3.

Perfect! Thank you, Zachariah. This is much clearer, at least to me. (And now I understand, those were just slightly older instructions. No prob.)
Much appreciated!

Hmm, I followed the instructions, but when I try to run the install script, I get this error: XML Error: unknown at Line 0
I tried tunning the install script both from the server and from my computer, same error.
Any idea where I'm going wrong?
Thanks. * * *
ETA: I removed everything from my forum and then did a clean install. That fixed it.
Thanks.
