Image Count Summnation Wrong In Parent Category

Hi! Our site is using the gallery to display concert photos from metal concerts. Each band has a category, and then each show has a sub-category under the band name. Right now, I have only six-ish bands with a single show underneath.

The image count is the subcategory is always correct but sometimes that count doesn't get reflect back on the parent band category.

When I upload, the count seems to be ok but later on, the band count will display a zero. For example, I just uploaded 25 Iron Maidens and afterwards I noticed my Dio pic band in the band category was now 0. In the specific show category, it still display the correct number. Earlier tonight, I noticed the same thing had happened with Amorphis and its single picture. Took a nap and when I woke up. It was displaying the right image count in the Amorphis band category.


I have the following band categories (just pointing the size of my gallery)

Amorphis (1 pic)
Dio (9 pics)
GoatWhore (2 pics)
Iron Maiden (25 pics)
Opeth (30 ish pics)


Any idea what could be causing this behavior? I went into maintenance and update the counts but to no avail.

Some follow up.. added a new band (Weird Al) category and new show subcategory... the image counts are correct so far... Dio's still never despite having 9 pics in one of his show subcategory... I was kind of hoping that the software recalculated counts when you add new stuff... no joy on this yet.

A bit more followup... now the image count is correct.. I haven't done anything to correct the condition... so I guess my question is: How and How Often does the image count update?
