E-cards recipient wont recognize my forum username and no buttons as unregisterd

Not sure if this should go in the suggestions forum or not. I'm putting it here based on the assumption that I am missing something.

So I wanted to send my sister an e-card from my gallery for her birthday.

She doesn't use the forums yet so she doesn't know my username.

When I send an e-card as a logged in user the email says stormqueen has sent you an e-card. She doesn't know stormqueen so she won't open it.

My resolution to this was to change my permissions (I really don't want non-registered users to view large or original images or to send ecards, but there's no other way to get the senders name to be my name as opppsed to my username).

I log out of my forum and go to the gallery that now allows anyone to view stuff I don't want viewable by just anyone.

I find the picture that I want to use for the card and start building the card.

Now I can enter my name and email address so that my sister will know who the card is from but all the buttons are gone no bold or italics or anything.

I enter the info for my card and preview it to see how it looks. When I do this my email address is removed from the senders email address field.

blah. I don't like that.

Also, when sending a card as a logged in users (with no option to enter the "from" name) all of the buttons show up except for the smilies menu even though the option to allow smilies in e-cards is set to yes.

grumble grumble

any ideas? If its not me doing something wrong, can you fix this for when vb3.5 goes gold?

For my purposes it really renders the e-card feature null as most cards will be going to non members.

ps - is it possible to send an e-card to multiple users?
pps - can we hope for a manual once 3.5 goes gold and everything gets settled?

Are you sure that the wysiwyg editor is not a vbull setting?? and not a gallery setting?

But I think the e-card issue is a philosophical one..
supposed your sister had opened the e-card...
this would meen that a non-regged member could view the large picture!!!
which makes it absurd not letting unregistered not viewing your pictures...

what I would do.. (havent tried it though ;) )

1. create a category with only ecard pictures viewable by all...
2. disable the ecard feature for all other categories
3. only let registered users send ecards from that category

And ... I would never send an ecard from a place where I new my real email was disclosed.... I did in once.. since that day I receive tons of spam...

Hi Luciano,

The vb general settings are set to use the standard editor which has the buttons. (My users will need those buttons).

One would assume that the passcode that comes with the e-card would handle the permissions issue.
----
edited to add the following info for others without bumping

I just today found this option on the main gallery configuration page in the e-cards section:

Apply Permissions When Viewing e-Cards
When set to 'Yes', this option will prevent users from being able to view an e-Card if their usergroup does not have permission to view the image included with that card. Otherwise users will be able to view an e-Card without any permission checks.
-------
I don't know why I should be afraid to use my real name or email address from my own board. I'm not going to spam myself. It seems to me that it should be left up to the sender as to what sender "name" is used.

well ive got a little paranoia.. ;)
but the the idea of community is that people communicate through the community..
in mine I want to limit direct contacts between users (email etc..).. if they want to comunicate.. its through private messages or anonymous email...and if someone sends a card.. it is delevered by "postmaster@my.site.com" ... if a non member wants to contact the sender.. he can only through the site..

I certainly understand the paranioa issue, that's why I use a yahoo account for anything I'm even remotely unsure of. Spammers are relentless!

As for the cards, each community will use it's resources differently. For example: one of my gallery sites will be used by members of a local organization and photos from the induction cermony will be uploaded to the gallery. The site is for our chapter communication, but I'd like for our new inductees to be able to send e-cards with their induction photo to their families. Graduation photos will also be available for them to send to their families via e-cards. It's my feeling that offering this service to our chapter members will encourage them to spend more time at the web site, which will, in turn help them to stay abreast of chapter activites and news. On both sites, cards are likely to be sent to people who would not necessarily recognize the domain name.

I understand your points, but our communities are different. That's why I think that it should be left to the sender to either send according to username or by real name/email addy. Of course the administrators should ultimately have the choice to allow the users the choice or not. (If that makes any sense!)

:)
