Question Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

How come when I setup a category to act as "Members' Category" and then a member creates a category under his/her screen name and then creates a another subcategory, the sub category shows up under the user name as well?

Example

Member Gallery
-- User Name
--- My Gallery
---- My fishing Trip
--- My fishing Trip
--- My Work Gallery

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

Haven't seen that happen on mine, and I've created cats several levels deep. Were you able to recreate this yourself? Maybe the user created two cats, in two different locations?

Yup, I was able to recreate it. I just installed vbgallery and almost all settings are defualt.

Could this be the result of a setting?

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

Do you still have these categories set up somewhere on your site so I can see the problem in action?

I deleted them, I just did some re-installing last night, let me see if I can duplicate this problem again today, or if it was just one of those things.

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

Yes this still happens, and I think I know why.

http://hr3rdgen.org/gallery/browseim...?c=22&userid=1

When I've set a category to act as a members category it uploads photos under my user name.

However, when I go into my stuff and add a category, I the only category I have set to allow me to add a category to is "Member Gallery" not my user name that it created it under.

Thus it creates a new category, and at the same time, shows it as a sub category under my username.

I think .... ??

I'm not sure. Am I on to something here?

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

The "username" category isn't really there. It's just rendered that way when displayed. If a category is a Members Category, any sub-cats that users create will show under their username category.

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

And in the members category huh?

Is there away around this?

I'd like to display things like

User Gallery
- User Name
--Users Categories

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

That is the way it displays them.

http://www.fireblades.org/gallery/br...hp?ltr=C&c=500

Click on mine, ConqSoft. Then click Bikes. Then Click a bike category under that. Several levels deep, just as you describe.

And I just looked at yours; looks like you need to set your Depth of Categories to 1 in the Gallery AdminCP. That's why it's showing on the main page as well. But, it's displaying the same category there. It's not duplicated.

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

Guess I was excepting it to display more like the forums do.

I didn't want to have to set it to 1, I think I know how to get around it.

Re: Sub Categories Duplicate themselves

Yup, I left my index with 2 as the depth and the 1 for the categorybits

Thank you though, you helped point me in the right direction.
