Uploading larger bmp/avi files?

Brian mentioned in another thread that the max upload size by default for php was 2 meg.

I just checked my info.php (as suggested to find the full path to the server) and it shows:
post_max_size 55M (Local Value) 55M (Master Value)
I also saw this same 55M in my vB admincp (up top, in the control panel home)

Is this possible/correct?

I'm asking because I am having issues uploading bmp's and avi files (larger files for sure!) I changed the max sizes in the vBaGallery-->Edit File Types section, as well as the individual catagories, but bmp's and avi's seem to upload, then just go to an "upload error" message. For now, I have disabled all formats except gif, jpg, and png (as I have had no errors with them) but as some of my users don't have access to anything but MS Paint, bmp support is kind of important to me. I'd also like to be able to share some avi's and wmv files too.

Thanks!

Re: Uploading larger bmp/avi files?

You can add .bmp oif its not in there by default as well as WMV and AVI, however you could have a 2GB max post size, but if your phpscripts can only be run for 30 seconds (each time its run) you'll never be able to upload 2 gb worth of data in that sort of time.

You need to change the max_execution_time (i think that the varible, if not its soemthing close). to 60 or 90 to allow larger file uploads.

Re: Uploading larger bmp/avi files?

Thanks for the quick reply Zachery!

I assume this is a change the host would need to add?
Can you suggest a good timeframe for lets say a MAX 30 meg wmv? (going with the largest denominator) I am on a cable modem and I would be the only one with rights to upload something that large so Im not worried about variables of others user connections...

I have no idea if the host will change it for me or not, but it would be better to ask for a specific than just "can you make it bigger?" Thanks again for the help!

ps - max_execution_time was the correct variable, and yup, mine shows 30!

60 90 or at the most 120, maybe try splitting up the movie, or use ftp uploads
