Installation issue

Hi there,

First off, great work on such a brilliant product! I was a previous Albinator customer, then decided I needed a better supported gallery, was looking at PhotoPost and PhotoKorn with mixed feelings. I didnt want to part with $129 for a gallery script but also didnt want to wait til Feb '05 for the PhotoKorn Pro release which will integrate with vBulletin and support user management etc....

VBa Gallery is the mix of both, great features, available now and at a affordable price.

However, I have been having problems. The installation instructions are simple enough, yet I am unable to upload some files.

I unzipped the gallery file without problems, tried accessing the config.php files using my default text editor (PowerEdit) but it threw back a 'the file....blah...was not found'. I thought "weird" but decided to use Wordpad instead for editing gallery files (strangely editing the downloaded forum files with PowerEdit was fine as usual).

Anywayz, I followed the installation proceedure right up to uploading the files. For some reason my FTP program uploads the edited forum files (which I had downloaded from the forum directory) but any of the files from the vBadvanced Gallery zip wont upload, it simply doesnt register them!

Now for both my FTP software and default editing software to throw both back I thought, perhaps it was a iffy zip files or something. So I re-downloaded the zip and am still getting the same problem.

Anyone else been faced with this and any ideas how to correct the problem?

[Edit:] OK

Funnily enough, just on a hunch. Knowing that I could open all the script files with wordpad I decided to open one file, clicked save. Now that file can be opened with PowerEdit and my FTP software will upload it. I only realised this when I took another look at what I had been able to upload, only the files which had been opened in wordpad were uploaded.

Now this isnt likely to be a vBadvanced Gallery issue, but its certainly strange how PowerEdit opens any other php file, yet any from the gallery zip wouldnt. Any idea what caused it? as I hope to fix it as its quite annoying to have to go through and manually open each file with wordpad just to be able to upload them

Re: Installation issue

I know what your talking. Here is what I did that should solve that issue as it did for me. Download & save the zip to your desktop open you zip file, then drag the main folder out onto your desktop and close the zip file. Now just use the main folder and edit from your desktop.

Re: Installation issue

Nah, tried that as I thought perhaps it was some conflict with opening from 'My Documents', though theres no reason for that its just common sense to try everything twice and then once more...

Its almost as if the zip folder has corrupted a couple of files, making them unaccessible for some programs. Which is strange seeing that wordpad CAN access them and the file structure is in fine working condition.

Anywayz, opening with wordpad then closing fixes the problem, but its certainly something worth investigating for ease of use by future users. It would be interesting if other users have had this problem, perhaps opening the files in the dreamweaver text editor (which I so despise due to the application loading time).

Thanks for the reply btw Fiber!

Re: Installation issue

That's strange... What OS and browser are you using? Would you mind emailing me a copy of the zip file you downloaded so I can have a look and see if I can find any problems with it?

Re: Installation issue

Ok, Emailed you about it

I use Windows XP, IE6 and open compressed files with WinRar usually, but also tested the file with the windows default extraction method.

Re: Installation issue

The latest zip for RC2 also has the same problem. Any ideas what it could be? What program are the zip files being created with, maybe if I try the same program then incompatibilities will not occur.

Its a situation where with each unzip I need to open and save each php file before being able to edit it with my favoured text editor and upload it. The same goes for the images, they all need to be opened and saved as... before they can even be uploaded too.

Its a very strange situation, but certainly one that needs to be looked into!
