Rebuilding thumbnails keeps freezing up

I'm trying to rebuild all of my thumbnails and it keeps freezing up. Sometimes what will happen is that it'll just sit at "Resizing Image: XXXX" and not do anything (I've waited in excess of 20+minutes). Other times, I'll get an SQL error like the following:

mysql has gone away means mysql has shut down which would explain why the process does not complete

what is the php memory set to in your php settings?

The memory_limit is set to 128M

You can send me details to do some testing on your site as I have no issues running a rebuild on my test site so its specific to your install the issue your having.
