| Category setup question
How do I setup a category in a way that it will: - On the Gallery homepage category listing - display all of the subcategories within the category along with last upload and images (compare Competition to Conferences in the attached vbg1-comp-aac-y.jpg file)
- Have the upload image button when going to category, but not allow users to upload directly to the main category, only the subcategories.
- Have the category listed in the upload category dropdown. In the attached screenshot cat-listing.jpg, you'll see the category "Conferences". This is how I want Competition to show up in the list, but I can't figure out how to do so without allowing the user to upload to the main category

Hello
The category depth you can set in admin and when you create your master category to make it act as a top level category all you should have to do is set no to the following option
Act as Category

That is a default vbgallery index. I really can not say what your doing looking at a picture you need to include a url in your support request if you wish me to comment.

Here ya go: TRC Gallery
I changed the cat depth value back to 1 though.
After talking to the "man upstairs", we don't the sub cats showing on the main index at all. What we want is to have both the Competition and Conferences categories display the same way Member Galleries does on the main index. But, I don't want users to be able to upload directly to those categories. #3 in my original post still applies as well.

When I do that, the category no longer appears in the category dropdown when uploading (upload.php).
I've attached two screenshots. Watch what happens to the Competitions category. The first one (before.jpg) is the dropdown when Act As Category is set to no. The second (after.jpg) is when Act As Category is set to yes.

If you want the category to contain all the info and look like the members gallery where you can upload photos to it then you must set it to no maybe view your members gallery and make sure yours are set like that.

It may not look how you want it to depending on what your trying to compare it to. I have no idea what your trying to do really as there is nothing wrong with your site. The application is going to display as it is coded to based on the options and templating.

Sorry if I'm not being clear. My wife tells me that I tend to "over" talk a bit
Let me try to summarize:
All I'm looking for is a way for sub-categories to be displayed/organized under a "parent" category in the dropdown list (upload.php). This Parent Category is only a container of sub-categories meaning members can only upload to the sub-categories under this parent category and not to the parent category directly. Members should not have the ability to create sub-categories within this parent category either.

I beleive the drop down is only going to contain categories you can upload to in vbgallery.
