Categories and Subcategories

Our main gallery page at:

http://www.huntersdomain.com/forum/gallery/

Displays main categories (USA Photos) the same as the subcategories (Colorado Photos, New Mexico Photos, and Texas Photos). Is there a way to make the gallery display subcategories differently?

Also there are subcategories under each subcategory that is not displayed on the browse category pages when you select a category other than the main category. If you click on USA photos the states are displayed as subcategories. If you click on Colorado Photos there is no display of the subcategories there (we have 5 or more subs).

Thanks for any inspiration!

There is no real way to make them display differently. They are indented if you elect to show them

If all you want to do is show the parent then set your catdepth to 1 not 2 like it is now.

Do you have any idea why Colorado or Texas do not display the subcategories like when you select USA?

Nope but my suggestion would be to try using the latest code as I see one style issue that would be fixed if you where using 3.01

Because you setup those categories as membercategories.
Membercategories allways display by uploader and not by pic.

As chuck said, upgrade to 3.01 because you have css issues with 3.0 and vb 4.1

Thanks, Luciano! Your hint about the member categories was correct. I went in and checked to find that each had been set as member categories. I will do the upgrades on both vb and photopost since new updates have been posted for each version.

Thanks again for all of the help!

Hello, just wanted to point out, is there a way to have the subcategories appear as columns and not one after the other? There is a modification to do that with the vb forums over at vb.org. Would be awesome to have that option, it wold look so much more organized, specially if you have a lot of subcategories. It would look just like this forum we're using now. How would you set the depth field of the categories?

As you point out vb forums display just like ours display we model our stuff after the default vb. There is a vb mod that displays subcats where a cat description normally goes but I am unaware of any such modification for vbgallery only the mod for vbulletin.

Would it be to difficult to hard code that into the design for vbgallery? What templates would be in play here? It seems as though this would be possible editing the actual vbgallery files, don't see this happening via template edits. Please if you have any ideas on how we can make this possible we're all ears.

Feel free to post in THE MOD CORNER if you wish to discuss any type of code alterations with other users. I can only discuss and support the code as it is released by our company much the same as vbulletin would tell you they only support their code as they write it. Any code alterations have to be discussed outside the normal company support parameters.

Just a suggestion. There is A LOT of people asking for that over at the mod corner. It makes sense when your using the software on a production site, better organization, ads more value to the presentation of the software, is it possible we might see this as a default in upcoming releases?
