How do I get rid of the gray upload photos boxes?

I was playing around with do a multi file upload by putting them in the upload directory. However they didn't upload and I get the three place holders on my individual member gallery. When I click on Upload Photos it takes me back to the upload page. If I try to upload it just hangs with the spinning Procesing Upload ...Please wait. I used the uploads/1 directory for the upload test. How do I clear the place holder or upload so I can delete the image.
