Contacts & Friends, Social Groups

In VB-Albums I have permissions to show a Album only for contacts & friends at vbgallery I missed this option or I can't found it.
In social groups you can show pictures, but only from your VB-Albums. Is there a way to show pictures from vbgallery?
My users, it's a balkanforum ;), missed both items.
Thanks in advance for help.
P.S.: Is a german translation on the way?

1. albums are public or private when a user sets up or edits an album they can specify whether its public or not

2. Not that I am aware.

3. If someone submits a german translation and posts it here then it would be in the language forum for vbgallery

Thanks Chuck for the answer,
I'm a little bit sad, then vbgallery can't replace the VB-Albums.

Chuck S May 24th, 2009 07:34 AM

vbgallery does more than replace them.

it just does not show up in social networking but then again you dont get the whole vbgallery thing when using vbgallery over albums. vbgallery shows in a users profile a link on navbar a link to user photos in postbit and also a forumhome photo block

The point is, vbgallery cannot replace the vb albums (as the marketing stuff says) if you use/want pictures available just for social groups. Is this not correct?

vbGallery does exactly what the email states on the points that it states. For example vbgallery replaces the profile tab and gallery image block. Thats what the email claims. Nowhere is anything about the social thing meantioned in our marketing email.

My thoughts are this here as I have been a long time customer of vbulletin for at least I beleive 8-9 years. I have read the recent leak on the status of vbulletin and the direction it is going right from there mouths. I think alot of vb customers are going to be taken back by alot of there new policies and pricing and support structure since they where aquired by Internet Brands. There is alot of back peddling over there on there site right now dealing with this leak trying to appease their customers.

Simply put there will be no gallery product released by vbulletin. There is no meantion of adding gallery structure into the vb albums feature as in adding categories etc. Photopost Pro or vbGallery are the best options if you want a gallery on your site. Thats my opinion as even though I work here I was first and formost a customer here in the early days. The softwares have come along way all of them.

Our email just deals with vb albums and states how it is not a gallery product and you get alot more functionality using vbGallery instead of vb albums. So 2.5 adds in some important concepts customers wanted like the flash uploader and tighter profile integration which was done and we sent an email and gave people 30 days free access to try it.

You know what I hope to come from all the mess over vbulletin right now is maybe as they try and make there own cms system that they fix the one major bug in there code they refuse to fix. You know how most applications prefix there images and script names with there url vb has always refused to do that. Maybe they will properly do this now we shall see and then we will not have to do rewrites of vb urls anymore.

Chuck, I love vbgallery and photopost too. You know I have 3 licences and if I had in the future enough money, that wouldn't change ;)
The point is, that my users misses the permission that albums can view, comment only friends & contacts. Picture for social groups is not so the problem.
The email suggested, that vbgallery can replace vbalbums ;)
Now I'm running vbalbums and vbgallery.

I can appreciate your points. I am just pointing out the email was more broad speaking on the fact vbalbums is not a gallery and vbgallery can replace vbalbums giving you more flexibility and features. The one big drawback we heard from our customers was the profile area issues and we did not blend in with the profile tab things like vbalbums did. Now vbgallery albums can be public or private. I really do not beleive that email dealt with other vbulletin functionality such as the social networking aspects of vbulletin. The email gave pictures and examples of the new functionality we added in respects to the profile.

Now rest assured Photopost will continuously move forward to provide you with the best possible products as we always listen to customers wishes and add the functionality they wish. Users that participate in our beta programs know this. One just needs to be patient because not everything can be added into a program that everyone wishes when they want. Now that vbGallery for example includes the profile stuff I would definately expect that more flexible album permissions etc can be looked into. Feel free to post any suggestions in the vbgallery suggestion forum. I know since we just released vbGallery 2.5 Photopost Pro is next for a beta cycle but we will be back to vbGallery next.

I really don't know why you appear to have gotten your knickers all up in a knot.

I was just pointing out that the vB albums are still needed if you want photos in social groups or even for profile backgrounds (on a user basis).

It is what it is, though, having vBgallery photos in your vB profile was an option before 2.5 I think wasn't it?

As for the whole vBulletin leak stuff, it comes across as a little unprofessional and what I consider a bit inappropriate for these support forums.

Cheers,

Regs.

Not sure why you think as you say my knickers are in a knot as they are not my friend. ;)

I was merely answering your query on my thoughts on the email and its intent. I guess it is a users personal choice what they wish to do as always. As far as the leak I have no comment other than I as a vb customer am a bit taken back by the new policies which is my right to state. My intent of that statement was merely to state how there will be no gallery product from vb and no update to the functionality of the album feature based on the information posted.

I too wondered about this when I read the blurb.

I think this line can be intepreted in a very different way to what it is actually meant:

"If you have been using vBulletin's profile-isolated albums, you can now easily import your users' albums and photos into your PhotoPost vBGallery photo gallery, turn off vBulletin's album feature (uncheck "Albums" in the "User Profile Options" setting group), and not miss a thing while enjoying all of PhotoPost vBGallery's rich features."

Well as I previously posted vbGallery allows public and private albums same as vbalbums but vbGallery is much more robust. My take on the email is that it is referring to the profile part of vbulletin and turning that off because indeed there is no need anymore since we have created plugins for that.

As far as social networking or other parts of vbulletin that may allow album stuff that indeed I am sure will add functionality with vbGallery in the future thats why customer interaction is needed in beta cycles and the suggestions forum is very important to us. Those are most likely areas of vbulletin the developer has never really looked at as he was probally concentrated on the profile albums feature directly and not other aspects that at first glance would not be easily seen to the user. I myself have owned vbulletin for 8 years and have not looked into the whole social networking aspect or what it includes. I am sure there are many vbulletin users like me here.

Please take a moment to post in the vbgallery suggestions forum as I feel that would be beneficial for the developer to look at in our next beta cycle.
