Can change profile block settings

I have set this to "yes" in usergroups permissions, but I cannot find where the users can change the block settings.

Chuck S December 28th, 2008 05:12 PM

What do you mean? The vbgallery profile permissions is simply to show gallery stats and gallery images in the forum profile to specific usergroups. You can edit the forum user permissions on the forum side for more forum specific permissions,

Luciano December 28th, 2008 10:41 PM

has to be yes for usergroup..
And then.. it really is a hard one to find
I would suggest to flag this one for change in new version...

Goto to user Control Panel..
Then hit the one of the 3 entries in section: Your Profile
either:
Edit Your Details
Customize Profile
Edit Profile Picture

ok?
then look on the bottom of the left bar below Miscellaneous you now have Gallery Settings

the direct link is: h t t p://w w w .yourforum.com/forums/profile.php?do=vbgalleryprofile

actually if you dont know its there.. you wont find it.. you will only stumble into it

Luc
PS: its also there if you hit any other option of networking or Settings & Options..
thats because it needs to call profile.php .. if ucp is called with any other page like usercp.php .. the setting is not there.. its not a bug.. i think zach thought it should be there if user was anyway editing somithing in his profile.. like avatar or other stuff...

Thanks, had to use the direct link to find it.
But this page looks quite strange here, a lot of phrases seem to be missing.

Make sure you have enabled it for usergroup administrators also!! not only for registered users.. If you cant see the link.. its maybe because you have enabled it only for usergroup registered users..
As for the phrases.. mine is fine.. and i have a testboard with 3.8 RC1 and a fresh vbgallery 2.43 (2 months old) with no other hacks installed.. it also works on my old board with vb 3.74

Luc
PS : actually i have disabled it.. because i dont want users to f*** up their profile when tampering with it..
Example: a user sets image size to "original" and puts it in the right column... ...:(

Luciano December 30th, 2008 01:05 AM

Actually.. to keep users from messing up their profile with wrong settings..
I wrote a little hack you might be interested in.
(that will also make your issue of not having everything phrased less important as only admin (i.e. you) can see the page.)

The page for settings.. (same link as in post above) is only visible to admin. If admin changes the settings.. they will apply to all users..

Thanks for this. I will check the mod out. I am interested in changing the current settings mainly because the users can see each others subscriptions. In my opinion, it is private stuff what stuff you are subscribed to.

A great place to look for vbulletin modifications to vb code is vbulletin.org. vbulletin.com is also the best place to ask questions on how their forum code works and its limitations.

Luciano December 30th, 2008 10:18 AM

this is not a mod (except what i posted in beta mods)
The profile stuff is built in vbgallery.
It is also present in your install (allthough its hard to find)

I am a little confused. Editing a profile etc is a vb forum thing to my knowledge.

The only thing to my knowledge vbgallery does to a vb profile is adds gallery stats and a photo block.

If I am missing something here in the discussion please let me know but from what I see doing things in a forum profile involves forum settings.

HenrikHansen December 30th, 2008 10:55 AM

We are talking about this setting:
admincp => vbgallery => usergroup permissions => (a usergroup is selected) => general options => Can change profile block settings (yes/no).

If set to yes, Luciano explains in post 3 how the users can actually in practice change the settings. And yes, this is built into vbgallery, and is not a vb forum thing, nor an vbulletin.org thing, but indeed a vbgallery thing.

Yes this is correct, Chuck...
but user can modify this display..
He can decide where it is displayed (right column, above tabs, below etc..... and what is displayed (thumbnails, medium or large images, exclude include image categories, diplay or not image title and description etc.. etc..)..

goto your forums.. login and type the url:

http://www.reeftalk.com/forums/profi...galleryprofile

and you should get the settingspage... IF you have set permissions in the vbgallery admin section that your usergroup (administrators i suppose) Can change profile block to yes

There every user can choose for himself how the gallery images and gallery information is displayed in his own profile....

The problem we were refferring to.. ist that:
1. the link in usercp is not always visible!! only after you clicked some things in user control panel (proof: you didnt find it ;))

2. that it allows users to make their profile look horrible, because they can chose to display original images in the right profile block which will break any layout.
(what my beta hack does.. it allows admin to change those settings for everyone... opposed to: every user can change for himself which is standard in vbgallery)

well i dont think you can do it in settings..
to remove just this.. i think the best way would be to remove the line from template..

Gotcha there definately not the easiest thing to find there
