Images going grey/negative like upon upload?

Hi guys,
Seems that when some people are uploading images, the image turns almost grey scale, and looks like it's a copy of a negative of the photo.
Any reason what could be causing this?

What is the file type ?
Does it happen on all types of images ?

- gif, png, jpg

Is your gallery set to use GD2 or Image magik ?
