Question about User Folders in File System

Group,

When using the file system for storage of file attachments in Photo Post VB Gallery, when uploading files by a specific user, how are the folders suppose to be created and files store under normal circumstances?

Meaning...

Are the files that say are uploaded under user id of say 20 suppose to be uploaded to say this here path... /domain.com/vbgallery/files/20

Or do they get uploaded to say this path... /domain.com/vbgallery/files/1/20

Im wanting to understand how this program should normally function.

Thanks

Doug

Im not sure what the reasoning was for this style of layout, but how hard would it be to convert the file system so that it doesnt break down the user id's into different folders?

Id like to see it like this if possible...

/domain.com/gallery/files/450

all files would be in the user id of 450.

How hard would it be to do this and what is the reasoning behind the current layout?

Thanks

Doug

Why would you want to change it? Imagine you have 10,000 users, under /domain.com/gallery/files/, you would have 10,000 folders, which would probably degrade performance.

Heck I dont know why.... Im just trying to figure out why and what the advantage of this layout is.

Explain it a little bit to me if your familiar with this so I can understand the advantages or disavantages.

Thanks

Doug

Actually having 50-100 thousand files under one directory degrades performance way more than having 10000 directories with a few times under them

Im not convinced of this. The few enterprise application using the file system for storage I have seen use this format.
