Member Galleries and Personal Albums

Could someone please tell me the difference between personal albums and member galleries? Do personal albums show up in the Member Gallery section?

What are the advantages to uploading pictures into a personal gallery instead of a member gallery?

Thanks,
Luella

Luella,

"Members Gallery" is the vBGallery term for a Gallery category that is configured to automatically create new sub-categories based upon the user name. For example, on my personal site I have a category named Creative Imaginations that has the "Act as Members Category" option turned on. When a user then uploads a file to that category it will be automatically grouped togeter under a sub-category with the user name being the name of the sub-category (example). You can then go further and allow your users to create sub-categories within a Members Gallery category to allow yours users to manage their own 'albums' in the category (example). Check this thread for a bit more in-depth reading and instructions on how to turn the options on.

In PhotoPost PHP Pro, though, it has a slightly different meaning which I'll leave to one of the PHP Pro guys to explain. ;)

Well Members Galleries works exactly the same way in PhotoPost.

In vbgallery the url works like this for a members gallery say member 3 who is testing.

browseimages.php?c=3&userid=3

Now in Photopost the url would be like this for user 3 with name testing

showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=3

Virtually no difference.

For some reason I thought PP Pro allowed for some additional options. But since I don't have access to PP Pro it's why I stepped back on that one. :D

Well there are some additional little things but I was just comparing basic apples to apples.

Photopost can set any category to emulate a members gallery which is essentially what vbgallery does. You set in admin cat settings for a cat to work as a members gallery.

The big big difference here is in Photopost there is a non deletable Members Gallery category that is like a fall back category in the coding. It is cat 500. So things are just handled a little differently between the two products but as far as what the end user sees you can tell by the urls they act similar ;)
