I have the exact same question.

how do you resize the designated category thumbnail image?

I want to make it, for example, 100x80 but it seems default is 85x85 with no way to change it.

The Category image is actually a seperate item from your normal images. When you're viewing an image the "Set as category image" option was really put in there just a a convenience item.

To manually change the Category image to be whatever image you want go into the ACP and then modify the category and near the top you can specify which image to use for the category.

What that means is that if the image you want to use for the category is also an image in your gallery but you don't want to use the automatically generated thumbnail of that image then you'll need to create a resized copy of that image in the dimensions you want and then manually specifing the category image in the ACP to be your one-off copy.

actuallyI was doing that before. My question is really... how do you control the size of the autogenerated thumbnail? (can you?)

I have like a hundred categories and growing... I'd much rather be able to use the auto generate feature than have to make a new thumbnail for every category (for obvious reasons).

The thumbnails generated from Gallery can be changed by choosing ACP => vBa Gallery => Modify Settings => Uploading Options => Thumb Size. Change the value to be the size you want your thumbs to be. For example, if you enter "100" then you thumbs will be sized to "100x100", if you enter "75" then it'll be "75x75" and so on.

Just remember that it's a universal setting so if you make that some really big number then all of your thumbnails will use that size.

that didn't work on CATEGORY thumbs (autogenerated ones).

no other way?

It won't resize existing ones, only ones going forward. To resize existing thumbnails then you'll need to rebuild thumbs from your ACP. Also, as mentioned above, if you have manually configured the category thumbnails to be an image that is not in your gallery then those have to be done manually.

I just created a tool for maintenance.

vBGallery => Maintenance - > Rebuild Image Sizes

Currently we can do Thumbs, Normal Images.

This will add "Category Images". It will request the size of the category image and update the record.

Added to the next build (vb3.5, vb3.6).
