Member's userid folder name structure.

I didn't see this posted, but was curious why a member's image folder (based on their id) is broken down into one digit subfolders as opposed to having a folder name with all their userid digits. Does it have something to do with a character or folder limit?

I'm sure one of the guys can give a better answer but the short answer is that it was done to cut down the number of files per folder. One of the original beta versions of Gallery had the files seperated by using a one-category-to-one-folder method but in later revision it was changed to the user ID method to mimic the logic that vBulletin takes with thread attachments.

Some systems can't handle having more than 32,000 or so sub-folders, so it's done this way to be sure that doesn't happen.
