TIA!

Re: Gallery - random images

I think if you restrict the users that can view the catagory the images are in, only those people will see it displayed. I could be wrong. But it makes sense

LOL i don't want that, I just don't want these to pop up in the random images that show on my first page. Most are files and show as a red X.

Re: Gallery - random images

Sunnycher,

Am I understanding.... you want people who normally have access to a particular category to not see any images from that category in the random images area? Bearing in mind that people who don't have access to the category in question will never see any images from it in either the random or newest images section, is that the goal you're trying to achieve?

Re: Gallery - random images

No, she is just trying to make it so certain images wont display in the Random images on her CMPS. Other than that she wants them to be viewable.

Re: Gallery - random images

non paid members can't see them anyway. but, mike is correct.
I have a category for files, such as PS actions, templates, documents and such that when they show up in the random image, they show as a broken image. I don't want the category to "participate" if you will, in the random image hack.

Re: Gallery - random images

Looking for the same thing, basically I have several categories that unregistered users have access to.

Lets say

Category1
Category2
Category3

Full users have access to many more categories.

Category1
Category2
Category3
Category4
Category5

I only want randomization to occur for images in category2 and not 1,3,4,5.

Is this possible?

Edit:
The reason I am looking for this is to go along with the VBAdvanced hack that displays random images in a module on the front page. I really only want certain images to be on the front page from the target category.

Re: Gallery - random images

Assuming that you're running the current version of Gallery....

ACP => vBa Gallery => Modify Settings => Excluded Categories
Quote:
Here you may select any category(ies) that you wish to exclude from being displayed in the new and random images section. To select more than one category, hold down your 'ctrl' key while selecting the categories with your mouse.

Re: Gallery - random images

Ya, did some looking around and found that work around from Brian but it doesn't work for some reason.

It only effects random images in the gallery and not on the front page module hack that you created.

The front page module still pulls from all categories that the end user has access to regardless of exclusion.

(btw, thanks for the quick reply)

Re: Gallery - random images

Jinxed, I'll have to check it the module when I get home tonight then. The module should be using the same permissions as the Gallery itself so most likely I need to update some code (the module pre-dates the option in the ACP).

Re: Gallery - random images

Sounds good, I will check back later then.

Just to clear up any possible confusion this is the hack I am refering to:
http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8303

Using it works great but it is randomizing all of the images that the end user has access to (via permissions). When I go to the exclusion above and exclude out everything except my target category it will make the exclude in the gallery (meaning if I go inside the gallery I only see images from the target category) but if I refresh the main page with the module on it I get images from excluded categories.

I think this is what the original poster was after as well. Anyhow, I will check back later. Thank you for your insanely fast reply and the hack is great.
