Question Layout and Spacing of Gallery/Links Home

Dear Brian and vbAdvanced experts,

I would like to separate my gallery and links directory categories, as per my homepage (http://forums.omnibilia.com). I would also like the collapsible 'tcat' category heading to be a the top of each category block, with the table headings (Category/Description, Last Upload, Last Post, Images, Replies, Moderator) duplicated underneath - again exactly as I have on my forum home. The space I have set between each category block is 16px and I added a 'thead' row at the end of each category section with a 'Suggest a Category' link.

I have attached images to show you precisely what I want to achieve. Please can you give me a rundown of which templates to edit and which sections of code to swap around so I achieve my goal? I am just getting acclamated to the gallery and links directory templates, so your help will be very much appreciated.

Enormous thanks,

Rob.

It should be fairly easy to do that by modifying your 'ADV_GALLERY' template, removing the code from there, and then adding it to your 'adv_gallery_categorybit_main' template.

Re: Layout and Spacing of Gallery/Links Home

Hi Brian,

The problem I am having is how to get the space between the categories and the 'Suggest a Category' row to repeat at the end of each separate category block.

In vBulletin this is easy, because the childforumbits, as far as I can tell, are doing the job of your adv_gallery_categorybit_level2, so they populate between the table properties of forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost where I add the spacer and extra row.

However, adv_gallery_categorybit_main is responsible for the collapsible header. Hence, by copying the thead code from ADV_GALLERY, I can get the table headings (Category/Description, Last Upload, Last Post, Images, Replies, Moderator) to repeat underneath the collapsible header without any problems. But, I see no way to close the table, other than keeping it in ADV_GALLERY. Because categoybits includes the sum of adv_gallery_categorybit_level2 and adv_gallery_categorybit_main, I just can't separate the category blocks. I hope you understand what I am driving at.

Is there a 'childcategorybits' variable that just includes the contents of adv_gallery_categorybit_level2? Or, am I missing something and just need to jiggle the contents of adv_gallery_categorybit_level1, adv_gallery_categorybit_level2 and adv_gallery_categorybit_main?

As it's only a little bit of changing around, please can I request you post the code and template alterations here? I am sure there are many others who use separated forum categories in vBulletin and would like to know how they can replicate the effect in Gallery and Links.

Enormous thanks as always,

Rob.

Re: Layout and Spacing of Gallery/Links Home

In your 'ADV_GALLERY' template, look for this code:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Replace with this:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Then replace your 'adv_gallery_categorybit_main' template with this:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
And that should do the trick.

Re: Layout and Spacing of Gallery/Links Home

Excellent - got it working! I made one little modification, as removing the code from ADV_GALLERY messes up the sub-categories table, so I replaced 'adv_gallery_categorybit_main' exactly as suggested and just moved the 'subcats' closing </if> conditional to right before 'categorybits', like so:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Thank you for the help, I truly appreciate it.

I've been experimenting with this too, but I still have problems with the sub-categories table. But I think I might have it licked.
