i need to place images in 2 spots:

1. recently uploaded images on the top part of vbindex, header template.

2. random images throughout the forums, header template.

what do i need to do?

1: Ask the author of vbindex for the answer.
2: There is a gallery hack that will do this. Use the search. Maybe try "random images" as the search key.

is... delete vBIndex, and install vBA CMPS. That way you won't be going to Dell asking for support on an IBM

This is vBA CMPS support not vBIndex. We will help in any way we can with vBA and ony of Brians other applications, but come on... play fair eh.

wtf? thats not a answer to a question buddy. if u have any useful hints please share, otherwise dont waste time here with that. we shouldnt have to re-write our entire site for 1 hack, especially for a question that i am sure is very easy to do like mine is.

and this is gallery support, not CMPS support. make sure your in the right part of the forums when your posting information. thanks.

If you take a look at the hack to add gallery images to your forum's index page then you should be able to use that code in your global.php file and header template, but it will require a little work.
