Question Install Confusion

OK, I have probably spent too many hours in front of the PC between vBulletin, portal, skins, and now Gallery.

I just completed the install of gallery and am running into a few issues.

1) Can not upload files. I suspect it may have to do with my directory path or permissions. I used /home/amphicar770/public_html/gallery/files
Is this correct and/or do I then need to change any permissions anywhere on the directory?

2) Am a litlle confused with how Gallery does or does not integrate with vBulletin. Within http://www.amphicar770.com/gallery/ it looks as if I I am running a complete seperate set of forums from what I have at http://www.amphicar770.com I would think I should be able to just create a category in vBulletin which includes the gallery forums? When I go to my vBuletin forums I want to just see the gallerys listed along with everything else.

Thanks.

Re: Install Confusion

1) Yes, that directory needs to be set 777.

2) It integrates with vBulletin's look/feel, users, etc. It doesn't mirror the forums you have on vBulletin though. You create whatever Gallery categories you want, separately.

Re: Install Confusion

If there are any sub-folders in there already, make sure you set 777 on all of them.

Re: Install Confusion

No subdirectories. However, i am still not certain if my entry for the file location of
/home/amphicar770/public_html/gallery/files

is correct. I really did not know what to plug in based on the example. The /home part may not be right??

Re: Install Confusion

You need to find out the physical path to your site. It could be anything, depending on how the host has it set up.

Re: Install Confusion

Hey, thanks for all the help. That did the trick. Now if only the two products integrated more seamlessly, I am a bit dissapointed in that regard.

Thanks again!!

What are you talking about? They're about as integrated as they can be. What did you have in mind?

Re: Install Confusion

Most people don't want the same exact categories in their gallery, as they have on their forums, if that's what you mean.

Re: Install Confusion

I think I know what he is referring to (please slap me down with a loaf of bread if I am incorrect) - but I am having a similar issue that I'm trying to research here.

I installed the vB forums - not in a /forums/ directory like it is suggested throughout the documentation - but directly to my root public_html folder. vBadvanced sits right on top of that and all works well.

Now I added the gallery - per the instructions I uploaded and modified everything as suggested - but this left me with the gallery folder installed as follows: /public_html/gallery/

I'm not sure if that was correct - since the gallery links all reference the /gallery/ root.

I even had to upload a duplicate of my theme skin into the/gallery/ folder just to get it to appear properly. It was unable to read the theme images in the public_html root.

The theme I use has header NAV buttons - that I now have to hack properly for the navigations to work - which is something I could live with (I guess).

What I do hope to fix however, is that I am unable to post replies to images. I have created the right permissons in the gallery catagories to allow users to post replies - but when I try to add a comment - I get sent back to the gallery main page and a comment does not register on the site.

At this point I am convinced it is not a permissions issue - but in how I have gallery installed and/or configured.

My main site is: http://www.doomsdaywarriors.com
My Gallery is: http://www.doomsdaywarriors.com/gallery

To see what I am talking about - click on Gallery in the header NAV bar - and once in the gallery - click on USER/CP. You'll get an error since it looks for the page within the /gallery/ file path.

I'm a converted postnuke-a-holic - trying to wrap my mind around vB. I'm still having my challenges as you can see

Re: Install Confusion

Unless there's something I'm not thinking about there shouldn't be any way it could redirect you to the gallery/index.php page after posting. If you'd like to submit a support ticket though I'll be glad to take a look

Re: Install Confusion

i just did the install and it sounds like the problem with uploads and the way the forum was acting is the same the only difference is that i had my gallery folder in my forums directory.

1. for the issue of no images showing and them just being x's I simply put gallery/files for the files path and then the entire url for the file url and then images started uploading properly.

2. the gallery acting as its own entity ie click on header logo and it brought me to the gallery home I needed to add these

memberlist.php
usercp.php
register.php
faq.php
calendar.php
search.php
login.php
forumdisplay.php
profile.php
private.php
subscription.php
member.php
online.php
index.php
gallery/index.php

to my Global vBadvanced Settings under header replacements and that fixed the problems

Re: Install Confusion

#1 sounds like a configuration issue in the admincp in the vba Gallery > Modify Settings page where the URL's and file paths are defined.

Your config is identical to mine - except that my forum isn't in a designated /forums/ directory - but in the html root.

I am however surprised that you had to copy all of these files over to get it to work. That just doesnt sound like a clean solution. It would almost make more sense to install the contents of the gallery folder directly into the same directory as the forums to make sure the file paths are clean. Is that possible?

To show how much of a greenhorn I am at vB = How do I go about submitting a support ticket?
