Reducing file size of submitted images

Hi All

Some quick and dirty advice please.

I have recently opened the gallery on my site and I notice thatthere are several rather large images being uploaded i.e.: in excess of 90K.

Is there a way to force the submitted image to be below a certain file size AND a certain number of pixcels...?

Cheers

If you have already edit the filetypes allowed (as well as their max dimensions and size) and then leave it default for all categories or tweak each category to your own needs, that should be more than enough.

Hi rbl, but why then do I have several images being posted that are >90K?? I want to try to reduce the size of images once they are submitted to the Gallery.

If you have it set to 90k, then they are limited to that size. If you have it adding a watermark, it could end up being slightly larger than 90k when the processing is complete. How large are they?

Not sure what you're asking sorry ConqSoft. Are you asking what size are the submitted images..? if so - some are > 90K and I want them to be around 40-50k max. Where do I set this parameter...?

Re: Reducing file size of submitted images

rbl told you where to set it.

You edit the allowed file types, and set the numer of bytes there. It defaults to 2megs.

Re: Reducing file size of submitted images

Ok sorry...

Can I ask, and then does that value act as the maximum file size for submitted images?

i.e. I want an image to be reduced in size from the size of the submitted image. So, say a user upoads a 150K image - can vBA Gallery reduce this to a displayed and stored image size of say 50K...?

Re: Reducing file size of submitted images

No, that acts as the maximum size that they can upload.

To keep smaller images, set the resolution for each file type lower (maybe 600x600), and tell it not to keep the original image. You can't tell it to reduce images to a certain filesize, but you can tell it to reduce it to a certain resolution to keep it close to the max. filesize you are looking for.

This way you can set the maxium upload size to a higher byte size (say the 2meg default), because that original image won't be kept anyway. It'll just be used to create the lower resolution version, then removed. This will keep users from having to rescale their images on their own to get it down to your 90k limit, for example.

Re: Reducing file size of submitted images

OK, I am beginning to understand. So if I reduce the resolution to 600*600 then Gallery will reduce the stored image in filesize as well yeah?
