Reputation in Gallery

Hi!
I was wondering if it is possible to use vB's reputation in Gallery.

Thanks! =)

Re: Reputation in Gallery

Anything's possible. It might require a good bit of work to get a reputation system working with the gallery as well though.

Humm.. I don't want an independent system in Gallery but the same or an extension of the one running on my board, if you understand what I mean.
The problem seems to be the overlapping postids from the forum and Gallery...

Yup... Another column could possibly be added, but we're trying to stay away from altering the vB installation any more than necessary.

Re: Reputation in Gallery

We need a distinctive mark in the inserted postid. I took a look at the postid field in vB's reputation table and is INT type with a lengh of 11 characters so a letter is out of the question, but a number is not.
I'm a MySQL illiterate but can we precede every Gallery postid with a 0 (zero)?

It wouldn't change the way vB handles reputations or the db in any way but could make a clear distinction between Gallery and Forum postids. Then if some work needs to be done to distinguish what is what, it could be done in Gallery's side.

Re: Reputation in Gallery

011 (for example) is not a valid integer and would result in the field having '0' as the value.

Re: Reputation in Gallery

It's not my lucky day =(
Well.. I kind of really need it and will try to make it work in Gallery, so in your professional opinion, which is the lesser evil?
- making the postid field unsigned and inserting all gallery postids as negative or;
- create a new table for gallery reputation and try to join reputation tables when querying totals.

I'm inclined for the later because there's a smaller (or inexistent) chance of errors or getting everything deleted in the next vB/Gallery update but would like to know your opinion first.

Thanks! =)

Re: Reputation in Gallery

I would go with the second just because that way you don't have the risk of a vB update overwriting anything.
