Upgrading forum and gallery versions

Being that I am not an experienced coder I was wondering how the gallery effected upgrades to your forum version. Does it interfere at all with them? Also when you do upgrade your forum do you have to do anything to the gallery to make it work right ect? I had a couple forums crash on me after adding mods and just dont want it to happen again.

You just have to re-apply the code changes to your forum. Then once you upgrade you should upload the vbagallery_install.php file to your admincp directory and select the option there to reinstall the templates, and that's it.

Im not sure I understand what you mean by reapply the code changes? So everytime vB comes out with a new version I gotta uninstall the gallery, upgrade, and reinstall?

You don't have to uninstall the gallery. You just have to re-do any changes that are required in the vBulletin files, since they'll be overwritten when you upgrade vBulletin.

You don't have to reinstall the gallery, just the templates. Whenever you upgrade vB they delete any templates in the master set that are not their own and have not been customized, which is why they need to be re-installed after an upgrade.

Re: Upgrading forum and gallery versions

I was thinking vB didnt overwrite any file that was modified. I plan to edit the gallery template so will that have an effect? Other than that tho I can upgrade vB with no consern of screwing anything up?
