| Do these fields need to be populated...?
FTP User Folder Path
The path (NOT the URL!) to your user's upload folder (used for FTP uploads).
FTP User Folder URL
The URL to your user's upload folder (used for FTP uploads).
If so, do I need to create a directory to use or can I use the ones in the /gallery directory?
Thanks

From the installation instructions: Quote:
FTP & Bulk Uploads:
If you plan to allow some of your users to upload files via FTP, you will first need to make sure that your 'FTP User Folder Path' setting (listed under the 'Modify Settings' link under your 'vBa Gallery' options in your Admin CP) is set to the full path to your '/gallery/users' folder.
You will then need to create a new folder under your '/gallery/users' directory and name it according to that user's userid (so if the user's userid was 5, you would simple create a new folder called 5 under your '/gallery/users' directory.
Lastly, you will need to create a new FTP account on your server for that user and make sure they have access to the newly created folder to upload their files to.

Cheers for that... however, I paid for someone to install the Gallery so didn't see the installation instructions.

You'll need those fields filled in if you ever want to add pictures/files to your gallery that are already on your server. If you upload a picture directly from your PC then those fields won't come into play.
To give a real-world example: I've been doing bulk updates of pictures from my wedding (we're talking about hundres of pics here!) so in ACP --> vBa Gallery --> Usergroup Permissions under the Administrators group I turned on the option of " Can upload images directly from server" in the " Uploading Options" group. In my FTP User Folder Path I have a value of "/home/farpointstation/www/gallery/upload" and my FTP User Folder URL is http://www.coolscifi.com/gallery/upload -- Do not put anything past the word "upload" in those values! I then upload via FTP all of my images to my {root}/gallery/upload/1 folder since I'm user #1. When I click upload from the Gallery there is an option at the very bottom of the page called "Upload from Server" (nobody else sees it unless you turned on in the Usergroup Permissions). Now when I click that box I can move all of the files from {root}/gallery/upload/1 into the Gallery instead of uploading them a few at a time from my PC. It's a huge timesaver. |

These fields are if you want to allow your users to use FTP to upload pictures to the gallery.

It's a two step process -- The user needs to FTP the files first and then once they are on the server they can "upload" them into the Gallery. If there is some type of FTP component integrated directly in Gallery then I've sure missed it. |

But what I meant was, they aren't just used for bulk adding from the server by the Admin.

When going on ~4 hours sleep in 48 hours, I tend to only skim, and read the parts I want to read I guess. |
