Support for vBulletin 5

I will keep you all updated on support for vBulletin 5 as time permits here

Forums - Omegatron.net

You will see I have a clean vb5 setup there. Once I get some time and see how things work I will be seeing what is needed to support vb5 and at what level we can support things.

I can tell you my first impression is not too optimistic if most customers are going to be happy to upgrade to this.

I will tell you off hand that PhotoPost Pro will integrate with vbulletin 5 out of the box with user authentication that is a no brainer. All the user authentication is the same.

However I have a feeling and only time will tell but vbulletin 5 may be the end of enhanced integration meaning the ability of loading vb headers footers.

I may be able to support css integration with some work we shall see.

As you can see I am playing around with things still seeing if there is a way to pull automatically the vb header footer of vb in the new vb5.

Right now I am going on the alternate theory that is not possible which is most likely the case then I am thinking of ways to offer some advanced css integrated layout if the user can create static header and footers for the app which is what I have done.

Everything is a working model as its only been a couple days.

I think I have user login and css style integration pretty much figured out.

A community photo gallery - My Photo Gallery

I still am sifting through the vb5 code seeing if its at all possible to pull the vb5 header footer. what you see in the mock up is a static header footer I did to work on the css and vb5 templating to see what I could start with.

I dont know. Now main page seems only "Most Recent · Most Popular Images · Random". Maybe this can change from setup?

You must be using an extremely old version of PhotoPost if you do not know how it looks.

There are two views old category list and new category style. The category list on this setup I have shows on the sidebar. Given there is a whole sidebar there is more than just an image block on the index.

You can still use the old forum style cat list if you want.

Yes there is nothing wrong with what your seeing which is why I said you must be using some old version of PhotoPost. That is a standard index page with the sidebar enabled with the category list showing on the sidebar.

Yep and your using the old forum style cats list like I said above in my previous post.

If you go to your index options in admin and set use forum style cat list to no then your cats list would appear on the sidebar like mine does.

At any rate this discussion is so far removed from the reason I posted. I posted to let users know of my progress and for comments on on the css elements I have done so far.

Your not talking about style though.

Omegatron Photo Gallery - My Photo Gallery

There is our product on another site viewing in the setup your using. The layout you are using your site still exists I just do not use it on my sites because I do not like the old layout. I would prefer to feature the actual photo content not some huge bulky categories list.

I was looking for feedback on the actual css integration I have done. The CSS integration I have done is spot on with the new vb5 style. I do not beleive there is any room for improvement there unless of course I decide to write up whole new templating if I have time.

Luckily the beta for vb5 is going slow at vbulletin so there is time to see how best to do things. The sad thing is the list of participation at vbulletin.org and the lack of documentation.

The good thing is that at the minimum we can support login and style integration. That being said placing static header and footer is relatively easy and I can document how to do that if we have to go that direction.

The issue I am having with dynamic headers is vbulletin is stopping the display of photos on showphoto and the display of the photopost profile page. If it where just an issue of the profile page we could get around that by seeing if it was possible to show info on the vb profile page like we do on the vb4 forum we do now but hook locations are slim in vb5.

We can not get around the showing of photos we are a photo gallery

Beta 18 is out so this thing is going at a snails page.

I have two test sites going.

First has a static header footer which supports user login and style integration

A community photo gallery - My Photo Gallery

Second one below has full header footer integration but if you try viewing a user profile or a photo you can see what is stopping us from supporting full integration the pages are not viewable.

A community photo gallery - My Photo Gallery

Basically with the beta going slow that is a good thing. If I can figure out what is stopping the full integration then I can try fixing that otherwise at the bare minimum we can support style and user login.

Looks like beta 19 came out last week thus far support is still the same once it goes gold we will support user login and css integration with vb5 but are still working to see if full header footer integration is possible.
