Problem with animated Gif's

I have users uploading animated gifs, and imagemagik fails to generate/show a medium images for it for some reason.

I have noticed this with a few uploads already.

Here is a link of a sample of the problem: Free image hosting, free photo sharing, Create free photo albums at Skidpics - my girlfriend

Any suggestions how to fix this?

what does GD2 do?

animated gifs which are not normal gifs I know can be very tricky since they are not really a supported format with any processor.

By the way thats not a medium image in your example its the main image

The problem with animated gifs is they are layers and that can play havoc with image processors

I will retrieve the image and switch to GD2 to see what it does. My understanding is that GD is more intense on the server?

Not really it is only part of PHP and consumes PHP memory which your application also uses.
