Recent Photos on Index Page

I have 'recent photos' displayed at the bottom the index page, but sometimes the most recent uploads do not actually appear in the panel. Should that panel update itself in real time eg, always show the latest images uploaded, or does it update on a less frequent basis, eg daily?

If your using the category cache under global options in admin it might take some time to update.
