You could place it in one of the custom pal templates under edit templates and in sidebar options in admin turn that custom pal on.

Did that OK but it is a banner ad 728x90px which I would like to add to the very top of the page, is that possible?

well then with that size you dont want it in the sidebar since its horizontal not vertical so try placing it in your header of the page.
