BLOB data type of SQL 3

Hello,

Previously when I inquired if PhotoPost stores its photos in the dB and the answer was no because it's slow. I'm just wondering if this was referring to the BLOB data type in SQL 3?

I don't know if I ever considered it too slow; my issue has more to do with the sheer size of the database when you consider thousands, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of images.
