Tips for moving to a new server?

Help! I am currently running on a dedicated server, but I am being moved to a new (and faster) server. My gallery got completely screwed up when I moved from a shared to the dedicated server, and I had to have the Photopost folks fix it. We were never told what went wrong, so I don't know what to do to avoid the problems this time. I'm willing to have Photopost fix it again, but if I can do it right the first time, that's what I'd like to do.

So...are there tips for successfully moving from one server to another? Any documentation that we can read? Is it best if I just contract w/ Photopost to do this part of my move for me?

Basically to move a photopost installation there are only a coupe things to do

1. Move all the files and database to the new server

2. change permissions based on the install docs

3. Point the config-inc.php to the new database settings and server path to the install

4. Login and change the data and uploads server paths to those of the new server
