Two Sidebars

It would be nice to be able to set two sidebars -- one left and one right at the same time. Currently, you can only set one or the other. And, the width of each sidebar could be set individually.

Then it would be nice to be able to choose which of the two sidebars to show each PAL or the Navigation panel.

For instance, I'd set up the left sidebar to show the catagory menu and search PALL and the right sidebar to show my Adsense and other advertising. Then I'd display Current or random ads in between the two sidebars.

Well nice idea nothing you will see anytime soon as something like that would require an extensive overhaul of how things are done. Defining a second sidebar is easy however defining and keeping track of what where how and why things would display where would be the hard part.

I don't know if you've worked with VBadvanced. But their system for doing this is excellent.

Chuck S February 1st, 2013 10:05 AM

Yes and that product is a CMS. I worked with vBportal which was far superior to vBadvanced.

Our product is not a CMS which is what I stated above which is why you not see such an extensive overhaul done anytime soon.

No, I'm not suggesting you make it a CMS. I was just saying that they have a very good way to set up dual sidebars and an excellent system for designating different modules into to each sidebar. I only mentioned it because you said:

Correct you say your not saying to make a CMS but that is what it entails.

I can setup in the code a second sidebar in 10 minutes thats the easy part as I already said above.

Setting up some system to say where who what and why is the hard part. That is what makes a CMS a CMS. You define blocks and you set where they display. I have an idea I am just saying do not expect it for Classifieds 5.3 ;)

I may look at this for the 5.3 release. If I add a second option for each sidebar pal for left right off and seperate the global selector for left right to be two seperate permissions left and right on or off I think I can set this up without two much fuss.

This is how far I have gotten with the PhotoPost Pro 8 Beta and sidebars. Once I figure out all the specifics I can go further.
