| Ideas for Classifieds 5.0
Okay guys PhotoPost Pro Beta is winding down so I am going to be turning my attention onto the Classifieds product and working on getting a beta ready. I will be doing alot of template redesign and have been looking at the suggestions forum here. It seems pretty outdated empty and quite stale so just looking for some fresh new ideas.

1. allow forum to get a "cut" of a sale, a % of each sale ?
maybe?
2. category template creation simplified?

Hi Chuck,
We would love to be a part of the beta testing.
Good to hear that you'll be redesigning the templates. As mentioned in another thread previously, we'll be focused more on getting our site mobile-friendly early next year. We hope you'll look into that, especially getting the templates looking nice on popular mobile phones and on iPad / tablet devices.
One thing to suggest (see attached) would be spam filtering. The admin should be able to easily add a list (word / phrase / URL per line) and any ad submitted with those matches will go into a moderation queue. This should be fairly straight forward.
Another idea would be to look at revamping all the Javascript with jQuery + jQueryUI, especially the error handling / error messages and changing the pop-up images to lightboxes.
Thanks,
Tommy (on behave of shri)

Thanks for the ideas Tommy
Zeos as far as number 2 we can look at things sure and simplify. As far as number 1 kind of impossible to do things that way as payment is handled between buyer and seller. We are not an online shopping software it is a classifieds application. Payment is being handled outside your actual software. As far as iTrader thats a vbulletin mod which we would not integrate with and I see no reason why we would try and integrate with a mod which is a freebie make shift classifieds application. We actually promote and sell our software not iTrader |

but.. i didnt realize iTRader was a makeshift classifieds...i use it and only use it for user feedback, and as far as i know, that is all it will do..
the reason for asking is this:
currently we have "buy, sell, and trade" forums, and we are currently trying to "move" everyone to the PPClassifieds and eliminate the headache of those forums(moderation). but would like to keep the current Itrader user feedback.
i appreciate your time in this discussion.
and i also do not expect it to be integrated, just thought it would be nice |

It is a feedback trader rating code mod for vb from what I am reading. I was merely pointing out we integrate with the users from certain forums to have an integrated login etc. We do not work with code mods. For us to integrate with a product it would have to be fiscally positive for us to spent such time which is why you see most external work being done is with supporting possible new forum integrations.

Yeah integrating with vb mods is kinda outside the norm of what we do.
You have a happy new year.

We used the PP Classifieds software for a while but changed to different software because of some features we really needed. The main feature we needed was: Custom searchable fields (drop-down and numeric)
For a car site like ours, it is important to select some standard items. There are the regular text fields but we need standard choices like - Color (blue, black, white, silver and so on)
- Body style (sedan, wagon, hatchback, convertible)
- Seller type (private party / dealer)
Other fields are numeric like model year and mileage. It is important to be able to search for a car with say less than 60,000 miles. Or a model year between 2000 and 2005. A good example is a site like Search Cars Online - Find Cars with Advanced Search - Cars.com
This will be helpful for all automotive and motorcycle sites but I imagine it can be beneficial for any other type of site.

Yes something that is a great idea the problem would be how to do it successfully. It is something we have been looking into.
I know how to make all additional extra fields BUT checkboxes searchable thats not that hard. The way the checkbox data is stored it is kind of impossible to search for at present. There is no way to tie together the data to make it searched.

Do you mean check boxes for Yes/No fields? Those are are easily substituted by drop-down lists.

well any checkbox. input boxes or dropdowns the actual entry is stored in the photoextras table in the selection field. We can search for that easy through a mysql JOIN statement to that table.
The specific problem with checkboxes and why we have never searched extra fields is because the entry in the selection field for a checkbox is an integer to match up to a value in an array in some other table. There is no real mysql query to my knowledge to search that entry.

Hi Chuck,
Should be renewing my Classifieds license very soon. Would love to participate in the beta testing if you need a helping hand? I'm always keen to improve the look and feel of the overall interface (probably my main area of interest - as per PPPro), but happy to review the products key features also.
P.S. haven't finished with my areas for improvement with PPPro. Be in touch soon!
