bid steps in admin-defined steps

classifieds 2.4 latest release

Currently bid steps seems to be hardcodes, but are IMO too big (10USD) and bid steps in 0.5 not possible at all.

This should IMO made as an option in the admin menu, so every administrator can use for his own needs the right setting.

IMO the most usable setting is to allow any kind of higher bids, even if it is only in cents of .05 or .01.

2 reasons:

a) small items are often not worth the price, if the next step is 10 USD
b) Only with small steps like 0.05 or .01 cent, you do ensure that bidders are not afraid to be forced to pay more than they actually wanted to. And this is mandatory to attract as many users as possible for an auction

Even if the price is already at 500USD, many bidders only want to go higher to i.e. 500.23 USD. You see this very often on ebay auctions...

Actually the bid increments depends on the price of the item.

In bids.php at line 154 and 214:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
If the price is less than $10, then bid increments are in 25 cent intervals.

This is to prevent people from continually bidding 1 cent more over and over (something our users complained about before we had this).

Hi

would it be possible to have it liek at ebay? The seem to have a mixture of both systems.

I just do not know how they do it. But on one hand ebay allows to bid in very small steps even with high prices, on the other hand ebay forces to bid in higher bid steps so the price goes fast up to a certain level...

anybody knows how they do this?
