Extra Fields Searchable? Regions

Our biggest compaint and downfall is a Regional search. Mike as you can probably appreciate is our Mustang owners have regional forums and would LOVE to have a way to search the classifieds by region.

I was thinking if I could name an extra field 'Region' then create my own Drop Down select list in the uploadproduct.php for the given extra field, then when an ad is submitted they would choose their region. Then if the extra field is searchable by URL string, I could make direct links from the Forums to the regional search in the Classifieds.

If extra fields could be setup as to allow us to choose the options that a user has, would make it easier for all to do, but I imagine it could be done manually as long as the extra field is a. searchable and b.URLquery.

Extra fields are searched; so if you did that then any searchs would include whatever was entered into that field.

You would need to change the uploadproduct template to use a dropdown for the extra field as the html code is for a textbox.

Could you give me a URL example of a link that would give results for an extra field searched? I have played with URL queries and cannot get it right.

I guess one thing to think about is searching within the results of the region. If we do a result based on the query of the extra field that is as search return, so if 500 ads are returned for a specific region, then how to sort and search those for a particular item and stay within the Region.

If you could have where in the URL query, &extra2=1 (1 being say southeast) and have &si=(searchterm), then we are rocking and rollin.

I am working to find a classified script that I can integrate into my vb3.5.3. forums that people can list vacation homes for rent...

Some of the requirements I have is that a person can search a country, region, state, bedroom size or ???? for their requirements.

I am not sure that I can easily modify the code for this script to allow me to do this... am I incorrect and I could add custom fields that could be searched?

I presume there is only one template for every category? Anyway to get one template to work with some categories, and another template to work with others? I guess this would be like a category specific "uploadproduct" template.
