I dea for new release

Hi Guys,

ok, had an idea which will make things easier when editing categories. Not sure if you'll go for it but...

I really like the additional fields, and that they can be tailored to each specific section. Sometimes though, after I have created a category, with say 10 sub-cats, i realise or decide to add or remove or even move around a particular extra-field. At the moment this means that i have to manually alter that in each of the 10 sub-cats to each cat.

Would it be possible to have an option to replicate the change pertaining to the additional fields and the template being used in a category in all the sub-cats at one go.

EG:

If I have a category "Musical Equipment" with 3 additional fields being used, and this category is divided into 10 sub-cats (bass, guitar, keys, etc), when i want to add a fourth additional field, or change the template associated with the category, it would be nice to make the change in "Musical Equipment", click the "Replicate Change" button, and this is then passed onto all the sub-cats (bass, guitar, keys, etc.)

Hope this makes sense. Ta.

That is actually a very easy change.

Photopost uses this

Classifieds is half way there in that the extras are in the category section

Reviewpost does not have category extra's yet

Shoot me an email and I will see if I can give you a tweaked adm-cats.php file and you can test it out

And another

Cheers, will do. Also had another idea, not sure if this is already available as well, but it would be nice to be able to copy an entire category and its sub-cats, and then just make tiny alterations.

For example, in musical equipment, each sub-cat (Bass, guitar, etc) will have regionalised subcats. So instead of creating each one for each instrument, you could copy the whole of the bass category with its regionalised subcats, and then simply change the main cat heading (bass) to the new heading (guitar).

Ta.

ps: will put this in the mail as well, but as this is the suggestions forum thought i'd post it here first.

Didn't work

Hi Chuck,

i've uploaded the file for the "apply to children" mod, but it doesn't work.

Firstly whenever i edit a category, that cats "Parent:" option is now always at "None" rather than whatever the Parent currently is, and clicking the "Apply to children" doesn't apply it to the children.

Regarding the parent, after an edit now, when re-entering the edit screen, the "Parent:" section has returned to "None" again.

Any chance of another go.

Ta.
