| VB forum hack/suggestion
We used to run our classifieds as a forum in vb. Our users were used to this and many bitch now that we've moved to PPclassifieds. Is there a way we could have a forum in vb that sort of echoed each post made to ppclassifieds? Wouldn't have to be fancy with pictures and all, just a simple text message with a link to the class ad.

I have posted requests for this hack all over vb.org as well. My users are pissed that we have moved our classifieds from our forums to ppclassifieds. We could probably make them happy if we could put a post in a vb3 forum for every classified that is put into pp classifeds.
Will pay for this hack.

| http://www.photopostdev.com is where we have a development community. I'm not sure how to create auto-posts in vB3, but maybe someone would step up to the plate.

There is a hack released on vb.org by a user named Erwin that allows you to do things with a form outside of the forum system (like PM users, add to a thread, etc.)... I would imagine that if you looked at how the hack works you could take out the stuff needed to post into a thread from Photopost/Classifieds.
As for photopostdev.com being a community for hacks... it will never be such unless more time and care is devoted to it. It is fruitless to just throw it up there and expect growth... perhaps you might want to look at getting some moderators going there or something... furthermore, some guides to help "hackers" learn the photopost system would be helpful.
Cheers,
~Regs.

Pretty much
I'd gladly help out and will revisit this at the end of the summer if the "offer" is still there... I can't commit right now due to an impending wedding and all the apparent headaches that go with it
To be honest though, someone like myself isn't entirely what I had in mind since I know diddly about PHP... however I think Bryan Ex does
Cheers,

Geez I thought Bryan was mod at the site.
I see his posts all over helping distressed souls out of logjams!

Oh sure... there's a great idea. LMAO Let's have a moderator for a hack site that can't write an original line of code to save his life. If you can't dazzle them with brilliance... baffle them with BS I suppose. |

Fooled me! I think you're underestimating your talents!
At least your charm provides consolation to fools in distress.

At least that way half the coding is already done and it would be a matter of figuring out how to have the files produced in the correct format and available for import. What I don't know is how big of a job that would be to do as I haven't really looked into it myself but there's tons of sources for setting up that type of thing on the net.

Good idea. I wonder how hard it would be to get a RSS feed from the classifieds.

half a year later, none...
the only thing that would push a coder from vBulletin to develop such a good idea would be to be paid, but a 10$ for the job is not enough (many people think that vB coders are freelancers doing this for fun!)...
creating a new thread for each new album created in photopost would be kinda useless, because there is a comment system on photopost that "in my opinion" do the job....
if all users complain about the new album, simply come back to the old way, there is nothing complicated...

Actually I created his need many months back as it was not hard to do
However while he wanted this I agree a double post with a link to the ad on classifieds I dont think is needed but thats the good thing about mods. You can code things to the way you want.

I had the same problem (users complaining) and removed PPC a few months ago. No I am ready to try again. The users suggest that new ads or comments should apear among new posts in the "New Posts" link - is it an easy way to do this?

Chuck, how much would cost release of this? Without ads on forumhome, this hack is lost ...
