Some ideas

Just had my first 10 users post forsale items and I had a couple of ideas I wanted to jot down for options

1. Set a configurable limit on the number of active ads a user can have simultaneously. Maybe that could tie into usergroups if for-pay ads are ever implemented.

2. I noticed that when I hit the Next Product link, a "PENDING APPROVAL" item came up. Does only the admin see those "Pending Approval" ads? I think it might be better if end users didn't see those?

3. Auto-approval by usergroup - Many of my most active users are in a Contributor usergroup. I'm not worried about any of their ad postings. It's more likely to be a new registrant that needs to be moderated.

4. Would it be possible to show a set of random ads from the same category when the user is looking at a specific item's details?

Here's a fun one

5. When an item is sold, how about having the software do a big red SOLD watermark across the front of the thumbnail. I think it would be cool to let people know that the classifieds are working, and when someone clicks SOLD IT, I'd like to see the SOLD thing for a week or so to emphasize that point.

That's it for today,

Regards,

Matt

I thought about #5; however, it wasn't a simple task to complete. Good suggestions, thanks.

Is it the watermark or the logic of the marking that would be hard to accomplish?

I think it could be done as DHTML or maybe even simple HTML if the watermark is the difficult part - the thumbnail would be the background image for a table cell, and then the word SOLD is just text.

Matt

Michael, I am still not clear on whether the difficulty with this suggestion was in identifying which images need to be watermarked SOLD or implementing the watermark?

Marking itself seems fairly straightforward. Either GD could be used or the image could be displayed as the background of a table cell - then the word SOLD could be printed straight over it.

So, I am not clear exactly where the difficulty lies.

Regards,

Matt
