New Install: Can't get past install.php

Hi,

I have been able to install 4.1 successfully in a sub-folder on my site, e.g. /home/mysite/public_html/classifieds

No issues with install or database.

I first deleted that install and database.

Now I am trying to install 4.2 on my same server, but in its own directory, e.g. /home/differentsite.net/

I cannot get past the install.php

I am getting a 500 error.

I have adjusted all the settings I should in config-inc.php and config-intc.php, even though those steps are not outlined in the installation documentation.

The installation documentation merely says to create a database for the classifieds and note the information.

Then make sure permissions are set for folders and files.

Then go to web and launch the install.php.

Nowhere does it say to FIRST, rename:

config-inc.php.NEW
config-intc.php.NEW

by taking off the .NEW

Nowhere in the installation documentation does it instruct you to FIRST edit those two files and re-upload them to your server and change permissions to 666 BEFORE running the install.php file.

I figured this out in the past, gleaning information from support issues in the appropriate forum section here.

Am I indeed following the proper procedure?

What is it that I am missing?

I'm running:
MySQL 4.1.22
phpMyAdmin 3.3.8.1

php Safe mode is off

There are only numerals and letters in my DB password.

Host is localhost
Path for classifieds installation is "." since it is being installed directly into my domain folder.

Since I am integrating user accounts with vBulletin 3.8.3, I have set that info accordingly.

Prefix is "pp_"

VB license info is there correctly.

When I go directly to my domain, I get the following error, presumably because I have not been able to run the install.

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Please advise and thank you in advance.

Tim

Thanks for the quick response.

I have done that and I get the same issue.

Please explain why the steps mentioned above are not in the documentation and also tell me if I am indeed proceeding correctly.

Thanks.

You can try redownloading the build now and upload install.php

The install instructions are here

PhotoPost PHP Photo Sharing Photo Gallery Installation Guide

The instructions can be updated if need be to say remove .NEW extentions I can pass that on.

You should be fine I think there was a typo on the initial release.

If you redownload and upload a clean install.php and it still doesnt work you can send site data through the contact us link but I tried the install before I posted intially and it worked fine.

I double checked the completness of the install.php file, tried it again and got the same error.

Then, I opened the install.php file in my editor and guess what?

I simply put the missing period right before the equal sign in the following line:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

That seems to have done the trick to get the install script started, but now I can't get past step 4.

When I click on configure, I get an unrecoverable error message.

Edit: Okay, so apparently there is more than one instance of the line above and they all are without the dot before the equal sign.

Perhaps this is not an error.

I am starting all over for the fourth time, downloading the package AGAIN, and attempting to install.

Ugh.

The issue has nothing to do with what you are stating and output has periods where it needs. The first instance should never have a period so there is nothing to change.

The reason the install file had an issue was an extra bracket on an if conditional line. That was corrected like yesterday and I have checked yet again there are no issues with install. I have gone through a clean install.

If you continue to have issues you can send site info url integration type ftp to the contact us link in the header.
