Some words to upgrades and more

Hi folks, please let me say some words to this classified script, that we are using in a professionell manner since years.

Since yesterday we were using a 3.x version of classified because of our heavy modified vb installation (3.8.x with nearly 70 modifications). So yesterday was d-day and i decided to upgrade to the latest classified 4.02.

So what you have to do is to backup your database tables and of course to backup your classified directory as well. And so we did.

Take notice of your installed version of classified; you will need this information when running the upgrade script; and i think this will cause one of the often reported errors when upgrading this script or another product of this company (photopost, review or what ever).

We copied all new files in the directories where they should be - so take care of the file structure -, choose overwrite, but do not copy any configuration files over the existing files. You can edit them later, even if there are errors after the upgrade.

After that we ran the "upgrade.php" - do not run "install.php" - and chose the "upgrade from the correct existing and installed version" of classified. That´s important! If you don´t choose the correct version you will get a lot of mysql errors.

We started the upgrade and, yes, the script did it´s job fine without any errors or any problem.

So what i wanted to say is, that the existing version of classified (4.02) is easy to upgrade and even easy to handle. The only problem is, if you are using another language than the English language, you have to translate all phrases new because of the new structure of the language files.

I think the script is one of the best you can choose for boards with vbulletin. And Chuck is one of the best supporters.:-) Thanks for your job in this way, Chuck!

Two thinks are important to include in the next version, Chuck.

1. We need to have a function to store ip-adresses of users who post new ads in classified for security reasons. We had a criminal user in the last week who offers ads, got the money from users and was after that gone and away; no ad was sent to the buyers. The police would be happy if we could name the ip-address of this criminal, but we could not.

If this could be realize with a modification, we would pay for this.

2. It would be great, if step 3 of creating a new ad could function with a preview function.

Chuck, is there a way to export a new created language?

O.k., thanks for this script and your continous work on it!

Greetings

Klaus

1. Klaus the ip address of the poster and commenter is stored in our tables and the admin can see the IP

2. I will be working on some export feature of languages in the future version after such a time I create an export script.

Cuck, you mean the stats in "Online Users"? For what time are they stored? I have only one or two days to see?

No under the users name on the ad. when a user posts ad or comment we store the IP. You will see the IP when viewing the ad.
