777 Reverts back to 775

I've tried to set the appropriate files to chmod 777. I set data to 777. Look at it again and it is still 777. Open up data to set the others and when I go back and look at data it is back to 775. Can't figure why it is doing this.

are you doing this from your ftp client or cpanel type file manager ?

the reason i asked is i had this problem before when i used a ftp program, but when i used my cpanel file manager it worked fine, worth a try anyway.

Yes try as MrKing suggests as this is most likely an issue with your ftp client.

I'm using Network Solutions and they are telling me that they don't allow 777. Will this application work if I can only set to files to 775?

I guess that would depend on how they setup there server. Can you upload an image and it is correctly processed at 755 permissions?

We tell people 777 permissions because on 99% of servers thats what permissions have to be to upload to the server. Now there are some servers that can allow uploads at 755 but thats server dependent.
