upgrade from 242 to 3.1 looking like a disaster, please help

have followed instructions to a T, 1st script from 242 to 2.5 ran successful but at the very end got:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/chris/public_html/classifieds/pp-inc.php on line 242
Database not properly setup - unable to read pp_phrases table. Contact administrator.

so ran the next one and it completed successfully, then ran the 2.6 to 3x and it immediately bombed with:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/chris/public_html/classifieds/pp-inc.php on line 242
Database not properly setup - unable to read pp_phrases table. Contact administrator.

I ran through the rest of the scripts anyway, final one said some tables did not exist, then languages import seemed to work. when I load my classifieds it looks like there are no styles and the following errors are at the top of the page:

other links are broken. Looks like a real mess which is a nightmare because this is an active part of my site doing nearly a million in sales. Can anyone help get the upgrade scripts to run properly, what should I do?

ok, went into phpmyadmin ran a repair on pp_phrases table, then went back to beginning and ran through scripts.. didn't get any errors other than duplicate entries. It did give me new options that ran successfuly this time. My system seems to be in tact but no photos showing and no skin, looking into that now..

ok ok, i am getting there.. i have the skins/integration to vb3 back. Everything seems ok except no images and I know why. before the upgrade I had renamed data to dataold and when that part of the script ran to transfer the images it didn't happen so now I am stuck with 2 data folders. All I need to do is re-rerun the script to migrate the images but I do not want to make things worse. Can you advise on how I can do this. Since there are over 8,000 images I cannot do it manually. I thought maybe I rerun the 2.42 to 2.5 script to do the migration step again but it could make things worse. thanks for any help! maybe i can just run a query to do this?

I am now stuck with a data directory that has nothing in it but folders and a dataold directory that has my old images.

Can you please list the site in question?

My suggestion would be possibly without seeing anything is restore a backup of the database run the 3.0 to 3.1 upgrade then go back and complete 2.42 to 3.0 and see if this works for you.

If you ran the part to do files TWICE this indeed is your issue and you can not do anything without restoring a backup of your database and redoing the upgrade.

well i reran that part of the script and it said it moved the files only took a few seconds but nothing has changed so it doesn't seem to have done anything..

just saw your replies.. is it possible to restore only the pp_ part of my database? it's 1gb db and i'd hate to lose 30 odd new members and 100's of forum posts. I currently have my classifieds locked at the file system level. I'm not too worried about losing images if that's my only problem i could probably manually copy in the ones over the last month. but not sure if it goes deeper than that.. for example i just tried to upload a test ad and no categories showed in the drop down box..

Aside from my images directory gone haywire, the above issue with no cats showing seems to be the only other glitch..

I would have to actually see the site in question to see what upgrade has been missed.

You can restore JUST the cp_products table to get ads back.

If categories are not in dropdowns then I would have to see what upgrade was not run something more to this issue for sure.

Although 3.1 is an extensive upgrade as far as files go and language translation etc the actual database changes are not that great for all the other changes that have been done.
