Error on install

I just purchased and downloaded PhotoPost Classifieds. I set up the MySQL database on my server and then I uploaded all the files and changed the permissions as instructed. I then ran the install.php and filled out the config area and clicked submit. It said that it was successful.

I then clicked on the Continue to step two link and I got the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/mysite/www/config-inc.php on line 26

Anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?

I tried running the install again but instead of starting at the begining it just flags that error again.

Any help appreciated.

OK, I managed to fix that problem myself but now I have encountered another problem.

Everything seemed to go fine and the database tables were all set up in MySQL. (I checked it out to be sure).

When I got to the last step of the install I selected to use the internal registration system and filled out the information form. When I clicked the submit I got the following error:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql5.sock:3306' (2) in /home/mysite/www/install.php on line 1080
I cannot connect to the PhotoPost Classifieds database.

It connected fine to set up the tables in the database so I don't know why it is now having a problem connecting.

Any suggestions? I would really like to get this thing running.

Thanks

Couldn't get it to work so I switched from MySQL 5 to MySQL 4 and then it worked fine.

Don't know why it wouldn't work with MySQL 5 which I would have preferred.

Possibly your php and mysql where not correctly installed together and talking. The errors you posted suggested we could not connect to mysql with the information you entered so the info was either incorrect or mysql was not correctly installed with your php. There are plenty of customers who run mysql 5 with this software as I myself run php5 and mysql 5
