Upgrading to 2.6 over customized 2.5

I need to upgrade my 2.5 installation to 2.6 but my 2.5 is heavily customized so I need to be very carefull not to lose weeks of work.

Does an upgrade overwrite all existing files?

Is there a recommended procedure to upgrade then re-do the customization?

Thanks

I went ahead with the upgrade. I just backed up everything then copied the new files and ran the upgrade script.

Now I will just make the changes to the new templates and this time make a note of what I do :)

Thanks

Yes as with any upgrade you always need to reapply hacks and mods

Thanks Chuck,

I was just being lazy and hoping for some short cut or a way to make it easier.

Can't we keep the same customized templates and just upload the PHP files?

Chuck S February 12th, 2007 09:32 AM

No you can not since templates are also changed just like PHP files.

I can't even save the language files?

So, upgrading means starting all over again and losing all the work that went into making the Classifieds work for a particular situation/customer?

Upgrading always means if you have modified something you need to reapply any mods hacks or changing yes

You need to compare your language file with the new language file

Just do it! It works!

Beyond Compare is a great tool

Its not as bad as it sounds, even if like me you don't keep proper records of what you changed before.

If you are using Mac then get Text Wrangler. It is free and will compare multiple files to show what's changed, what's new, what's been deleted, etc.
