Users not staying logged in (phpbb integration)

I've searched and found many with similar problems in Classifieds but they all related to VB3. I have my install integraed with PHPBB.

I have a significant number of complaints from folks that say their log in is not following them from PHPBB and then they log in at PP Classifieds, receive the Success screen and when they return to the index page they are not logged in.

I have PHPBB, PhotoPost, ReviewPost and Classifieds all installed with the exact same cookie setup information. Only classifieds has the problem.

In all 4 applications the set up is:

Cookie Path: /
Cookie Name (Forum cookie prefix): phpbb2mysql
Cookie Domain:

The classifieds are installed into www.tdpri.com/phpclassifieds
Photopost is installed in www.tdpri.com/telephoto
Reviewpost is installed in www.tdpri.com/reviewpost
PHPBB is installed in www.tdpri.com (root)

People click on "delete my cookies" but this doesn't solve the problem. Some times if they delete ALL of their browser cookies it does solve the problem.

Again, it only happens in Classifieds.

Got any suggestions?

I would suggest you set your cookie domain in phpbb and all products to this

.tdpri.com

reason being if someone clicks some link and there is not a www in it or say they login in phpbb without the www the cookie is not recognized on www or vice versa with no www depending on how they login. with a cookie domain of .tdpri.com your users will be logged in continuously nomatter the subdomain.

Also if logging in through PHPBB make sure they click the remember me button to create a cookie since our products work with cookies not sessions.

BUT.....
This does not in any way solve the problem of folks that can't stay logged in even for 10 seconds in Classifieds, when they can stay logged in for months in PHPBB, PhotoPost and Reviewpost.

In fact, I can't see how this would fix the problem at all except that all 10,000 users would have to relog in and put a new cookie on their computer for my domain. (10,000 people having to relog in would yeild hundreds of emails telling me that they don't remember their passwords and their email has changed so they can't use the auto password reminder function.)

Why is only classifieds having this problem?

Classifieds uses the same integration file as Photopost and Reviewpost so I dont see an issue there.

I am just stating what I tell every customer when they post cookie settings as you have posted.

If you want users to be logged in they must be cookied in and the cookie settings must be exact. Therefore a domain of .domain.com is warranted.

Also please realize all of our products within the last couple months now only work with phpBB 2.018 and above so if your using a new classifieds and an old phpBB this could be an issue for you.

You can post a test user login here for me to login and see if I get logged out

I'm using the latest PHPBB 2.0.19. The beta for 3.0 is about to be released after 3+ years of development.

It is not new registrations that are having a problem. It seems to be some of the older registrations. I can't see the problem my self. I just get 10 emails a day about it from users.

I understand what you are saying about the cookie domain. However, it runs contrary to both PHPBB's advice AND its working without problem in your other products. So, it should work in Classifieds.

I got rid of the "Delete Your Cookies" on the login page, this was just making things worse. I'd tell folks to delete their cookies and they'd use that link to try to do it and it didn't ever work as expected.

If you can not replicate the issue with your account this would seem to be user problems maybe with cookie settings on there browser.

If you had any issue with the program you would be able to replicate the issue. I asked for a test login but since you did not post one I went ahead and created a username. I logged in through the forum and then went to classifieds and was logged in fine. I clicked through every page and was logged in continously.

If you users continue to see issue they need to document what they where doing, are they using multiple windows. etc etc

As far as setting the domain name to .domain.com phpBB can tell you what they want to but almost anyone who knows anything about cookie settings is going to tell you to set cookies to .domain.com if you want a site wide cookie. It is only just basic common sense.
