Fatal error: imagecreatefromgif()

I've just installed my Classifieds system and have it using GD1. I have .gif included in the list of acceptable graphics, but when you try to upload a gif you get: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreatefromgif()

Can you give me any suggestions of what I can do to fix this????

Thanks

GD1 does not process gif images. You must remove gif extention from allowable image types.

Thanks. I didn't know.

By the way I have GD 1.8 and ImageMagick installed on my server. I have Photopost installed too and Imagemagick works great with it. But for some reason Classifieds didn't work right with IM in my testing when I set the program up. It wouldn't make thumbs... they were there but they weren't resized. In PhotoPost they resize just fine.

Any ideas?

PS. Yes, I set the mogrify location in Classifeds just like in PhotoPost.

Well, I just went live with it today and it's getting too much traffic for much serious testing right now. It will die down by midweek.

I just tried it again, and the setting for mogrify is exactly the same as I have it in PhotoPost on the same server but when I set Classifieds to use IM it places the uploaded photo in its full uploaded size in the thumbnail. I removed the test because it puts that big photo in the random images places too.

You can see the install at: http://www.tdpri.com/phpclassifieds

Can you think of anything from your experience with IM that would cause it not to make thumbs in Classified when PhotoPost does with the same settings on the same server? The PhotoPost install is at http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto.

Thanks

Usually if the thumbnail does not get created correctly I would say a permissions issue in my experience.

Hum, thanks.

I just checked the Data directory and all the folders in there are 777. One small problem is that they are owned by user and group "apache" and so I have little control over them.

But I checked and they are all 777.

Is there some other directory or file that I should check the permissions on?

Thanks
Paul

What is the exact error message you get?

The error message was when trying to send a GIF to GD1 and you answered that. In my response I told you about IM not working for me in classifeds, when it does on the same server in PhotoPost.

You said it sounded like a permissions problem. And that is why I posted that my data permissions were all 777.

There is no error message when trying to use IM in my Classifieds... it just doesn't resize the uploaded photo into a Thumbnail.

Yeah, it works fine with GD1. Makes thumbs just right. But if I set it to IM the Thumb doesn't get made at all. It puts the big uploaded photo in as the thumb.

And, as I said, I run PhotoPost on the same server and IM works fine.

I can only suggest you download the classifieds distribution upload all files except the config files and try again checking permissions.

I use classifieds with IM exclusively with no issue and photopost uses the same as well.
