Question Changing Databases

Not sure if this is the correct place for this Q but ........

I'm running my classifieds in a seperate database to the vB3.5 forum that its integrated with. From what I've read the classifieds will run faster in the same database so I'm contemplating combining them.

Is this as simple as backing up the classifieds database and uploading into the forum database, and then changing the pathway in the admin screen of the classifieds?

Will the classifieds actually load faster? I think it would due to the integration.

Is there anything else I can do to speed things up?

Thanks for your help in advance,

snappy,

Hello

You can look on the mysql site for tips and tweaks at improving mysql speed but this will only help you if you have a dedicated server since most shared hosting you dont have permission to tweak the servers.

Now as far as combining databases

Yes it is as simple as this. Transfer the tables into the vbulletin database and update the database info in the config file to point to the right database.

There are pro's and con's to each way of thinking.

I prefer same database for smaller sites etc.

I prefer separate databases for larger sites where databases are bigger because the saving's you get by not having to connect to a new database is muted by the extra time to access the large database when everything is in one database

So its a give and take situation to be perfectly honest.
